Shop safety

One time many years back my brother had an old 1977 Cutlass. It was a beater he got from his girlfriend's brother at the time. He was in the process of working on and he had taken the carburetor off to work on it. His girlfriend (now ex) at the time went to use the car when he wasn't around. You might be able to picture the rest. The car was toast literally afterwards thankfully no one was hurt. It was kind of humorous but brings up the more serious issue of safety(and peerhaps communication but that's another story) when working on vehicles.
Mathew Wright(of About.com) brings up some good pointers for shop safety in this article. I hope you enjoy.

Another oil change

Well I completed another oil change on my Impala yesterday. I'm certainly reaching my goal of doing them every 3000 miles. Next step is getting the rest of the maintenance items inline too. Next is tranny fluid service both(My Impala and wife's Caravan) of which are over due.

Oil change today

Today I finally got around to changing the oil in my wife's car(2000 Dodge Grand Caravan). Nothing out of the ordinary happened. I'm still working on disposing(recycling I should say) the old oil. This is perhaps the biggest pain of do-it-yourself oil changer. I'm due for a trip to the local DPW or a trip to the landfill very soon. Next week I'll be doing my Impala's.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. In case you don't know I've gone back to school part time along with my full-time job and family stuff. Not a lot of time left over for car stuff. The only car related items I've done lately were:
  • Changed an air filter on my wife's 2000 Caravan
  • fixed a flat on my Impala
  • Recently changed my sister's oil in her 2004 Impala
  • Most recent drama was replacing my battery in my Impala today. It was the original so after about 8 years of service it decided to retire. Not at my convenience though.
Upcoming events:
  • Change the oil in my Impala and wife's Caravan
  • Replace transmission fluid and filter in both our cars
  • I'm trying to do a friends oil change if he'll let me.
  • Dispose of the above oil in an environmentally friendly way.
The last one is probably the hardest one. The local landfill you have to bring in by appointment and the local highway department will take it but it's a hassle getting there. I'll figure something out out. Talk to you later.
