Have you seen Papa’s Z28?

pizzaboycamaro_resized

I haven’t seen the commercial personally John Schattner, founder of Papa John’s, has been seen driving around in a gold 1972 Chevrolet Camaro in his commercials. This is in fact a clone and he his in search of the original. The story is that he sold the original to purchase some needed equipment to keep his restaurant business afloat. He has posted a $25,000 reward to whoever finds it. I hope “Papa” John finds his car. More information can be found on his website he created for this.

Riverside Cruise night

1939 ChevroletUnlike last week the cruise was packed with more fantastic automobiles than last. The weather was warm and sunny. I didn’t get there until after 6:30 because of work. I of course was armed with my camera and took many pictures which can be seen here on Flickr. I’m still going through them so stay tuned for more pictures. I’m still going through photo’s from the previous show at Johnston. I now have plenty to keep me busy for awhile. I even got to see the new Challenger in person.

1968 Crash tests

After viewing these crash test clips from 1968 one has to be amazed at how far we’ve come in automotive safety. Today we hear of seatbelt laws, crumple zones, airbags and so on. The clip is both entertaining and a bit creepy. Numerous times you see crash test dummies thrown from vehicles and sometimes even crushed by their own car. I originally found this clip through WebRidesTV. It may make you think twice about buckling up.

20th Annual Auto Extravaganza

1967 Chevrolet El Camino

I was able to attend the 20th Annual Auto Extravaganza at the Johnston War Memorial Park yesterday in Johnston, Rhode Island. The weather warm, sunny and with few clouds. The park was overflowing with classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods, rat rods, custom cars and more. The local favorite Cruisin Bruce Palmer was on hand to spin the oldies.  I arrived just before 9am and when I left close to noon cars were still arriving hot and heavy. I’ve just started going through my pictures and will be posting them on Flickr here.

Cruise Night in Riverside

1979 Dodge Aspen R/T

I was finally able to attend a cruise night at the Crescent Park Carousel in Riverside, Rhode Island. It seemed like a decent turn out and weather was overcast and cool which actual helps with photos. Too much sun makes for harsh shadows. I had my 7 year old son with me and he enjoyed himself. I enjoy taking pictures here a lot and I seem to get a lot of good shots here. It’s not overly crowded and has some nice background. Some cruise nights I think actually have too many people and are held on parking lots or other impersonal places. Cruise nights are held every Saturday night(through September) with music, the Carousel, food and drink shacks close by. I think it’s worth the trip.

Classic Car Show Calendar

IMG_2938I frequently get asked when car show events are happening. I added my Google calendar(look to the right hand column) to show when classic car show events are happening. This will highlight events going on in my area here in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. I will be adding to this as time allows.

If anyone knows how to photograph cars the people at Hemming’s know their stuff. Here are some handy tips from them here. I swear they used some of my photo’s for examples but, I can’t be sure. I grant you car shows in general are not the best place to get great photo’s but, you can try and make the best of it using some of their tips.

50 new Chevy Camaros Fly in Formation

A video of the new Camaro arriving in Houston. They blocked off sections of highway so about 50 Camaros had the highway to themselves. That's something you don't see very often.
